This painting is a an abstracted representation of the meaning of Psalm 23, with a flock of sheep (representing us) being led by their shepherd (the Lord) through a dark valley ultimately to be led to a table land where there is light, safety, and plenty to eat. This is the story of our shepherd—though we walk through the unknown of valleys maybe with no light in sight, our shepherd protects us in the midst and guides us to beautiful, plentiful, full of light places. Even though in the moment the sheep may only see what is right in front of them, they trust their shepherd.
